The Kogod Difference

“The American, by nature, is optimistic. He is experimental, an inventor and a builder who builds best when called upon to build greatly.”

With great leadership comes a willingness to motivate change. In launching a graduate student blog from our nation’s capital, we remember these words of the profound visionary, President John F. Kennedy. The Kogod School of Business at American University gives students the tools to build a better future for ourselves and contribute to a lasting legacy. These tools are indicative of the “Kogod Difference,” an environment where Kogod students are empowered to lead change.

Kogod

Our November town hall meeting, held by Director of Graduate Programs, Dr. Anne Ferrante, exemplifies the “Kogod Difference.” Staff members joined to help jot down ideas, concerns and opinions that students voiced. Our small, interconnected graduate community is constantly evolving with input from all stakeholders including faculty, staff, and most importantly, students.

As students of Kogod we recognize the efforts faculty and staff make to enhance the student experience. During the recent Alan Meltzer CEO Speaker Series featuring Kindred Healthcare CEO Paul Diaz, Dean Durand hung around to recap the event. The dean mentioned that even with his hectic travel schedule, he enjoys the opportunity to touch base with students, which he finds reinvigorating.

Following the blue print of these Kogod leaders, our student blog will bridge the “Kogod Difference” to outside communities. The journey through American University has been paved with hard work, group projects and new friendships. The Kogod Graduate Insider will document our student experience as we develop our abilities to “build greatly.”
